Learning a Second/Third Language at Home and School

Hello people on the world,
What's good?
Welcome back to Tiar's blog

Thanks for coming back on my blog.
I hope all of you are going well.

As we know, the second/third language is the language that is not the native language (first language or L1) of the speaker, but is learned later (usually as a foreign language, but it can be another language used in the speaker's home country).
When the childrens are going to learn the second language at school, they must know where is informal and formal context. Usually, many children like to used informal context. But when the student are learning at school, they should to use formal language.
Every children tend to pick up language in everyday situations from other children in their environment relatively quickly because they want to play and make friends. Familiar routines offer great opportunities for hearing the same language again and again for learning to take in simple conversations. This means the children can communicate, make friends, and function well in everyday conversations as quickly as within th first one or two years of arrival in the new country.
To master language that is need for school is quite a different matter.
According to Jim Cummins published Language, power and pedagogy: Bilingual children in the Crossfire (2020), in which he reviewed research evidence about the school second language learning offered advice to teachers working in contexts where there is a cultural diversity of learners in the same class. One factor which seems important in this process is to develop children's mother tongue and second language literacy sills in parallel, rather than neglecting the first language to make way for the second. Respect for their mother tongue and support with their second/third language are essential. That's way to apply Cummin's method is better for learning the second language to children in school.
To help the children, teacher will have to think hard about providing a rich language environment where formal and scientific terms and concepts are carefully introduced and explored, starting with informal concepts, words, and pharases that the children are already familiar with. Beside that teacher need to plan their language use in class explicitly and carefully. For example, when teaching children about magnets it is a good idea to start with language they already have for describing magnetic phenomena, such as 'pull together' or 'pull apart', and than introduce formal terms such as 'attract' and 'repel'.

    Virtual learning spaces: The Internet
Many children one popular use of the internet is to play games, and many play them in English. From a language input perspective, games are very rich because they combine different contextual clues via animation, audio, video, and other multimedia. They also attract and hold children's attention because of the content. But, this is not specifically visible in the school English test. Games which included appropriate levels of challenge, some mystery in content, an opportunity to take control of the game, and a multiplayer option \were most popular. Teacher have to support children to find new vocabulary. So, children can be proactively look up phrases they do not know and continue with the games. Children may speak to other players and read important messages to help them to progress with the game. Playing the same game means encountering the same sort of language repeatedly, which is very beneficial for practising and learning.
In this case game'-playing characteristic of children under the age of ten are very different from older children's characteristic, but all the age groups enjoy playing. So teacher should to investigate what game children in their classes are playing online so that they can better understand and possibly build on these out-of-class learning opportunities.
